I know you're thinking, "Gift cards? Really? Can you get a little more impersonal, or are you just lazy?" Well, hear me out. I love giving presents to my family and friends, especially when I know what they want. I get so excited that I can't wait for them to open it and see how happy they'll be. It's the best feeling when I know I hit a home run and got the perfect thing-a-ma-gig. But, unfortunately, I've also had my fair share of seeing disappointed faces because I got it so wrong. I thought for sure sparks flying out of a scooter would be a nine-year-old's dream. Instead, he looked at his father and inquired, "Is this even safe?"
I will ask my loved ones what they want, and I'm met with silence. I understand, sometimes it's hard to explain what we need at any given time. Hence, the beauty of the gift card. Over the years, I've learned that giving people the opportunity to buy what they want at any time throughout the year has been more beneficial. My sister, Lynette, told me yesterday the best part of a gift card is the flexibility of purchasing items that went on sale at the end of the year. My brother, Stan, likes to shop for clothes that fit his style. (I believe that's his way of saying he doesn't like my taste in fashion. Apparently, zipper pockets on dress pants are a no-go.)
I enjoy getting gift cards. (Blatant hint for anybody still not sure what to get me.) However, I'm not much of a shopper. As it is, I'm trying to rid my house of stuff, not collect more. I would rather spend money on a night out with friends, going to the movies with my husband, or getting that magic potion that will make me look ten years younger. (That would be some serious magic.) It's a nice feeling having a little extra cash to spend on something special.
I enjoy hearing what my gift card recipients bought, and it makes me glad they were able to splurge on something for themselves. If finding that fantastic, incredible, wow, present is becoming impossible, reduce your stress level and buy the money card. Your friends and family will be able to use it for what they need, and you can be the hero you've dreamt of.
Holidays fly by so fast that it seems to be over in the blink of an eye. So enjoy your time with loved ones and stay in the moment. Take pictures, but remember to put the phone down. You don't want to miss their smiling faces when they see what wonderful presents you have for them. Remember to indulge in all the fun food and egg nog because the diet starts on Jan.2nd.
My wish for you this holiday season is to have your life filled with love, happiness, excellent health, and success. Thank you for reading my newsletters every week. I appreciate it. Happy New Year!
