"All of Us are Santa Claus, and We Have the Power to Make Memories Full of Hope and Love."

"I'm telling you, Santa Claus will skip this house if you're still awake." My little brother, Zach, is too excited about the prospect of presents in the morning to want to go to bed. He looks at me with a big smile on his face, "I'm pretty sure I'll have new toys tomorrow. I'm not worried." He's four years old and not a real devotee of the jolly, fat man. My other brothers and sisters and I are a few years older than Zach, so he's mostly around teenagers and has become a skeptic. As I took him to his room, we heard a loud crash! We stopped in our tracks and looked down the hallway. Zach grabbed my hand, and we quietly made our way to the living room.

There he was! Standing in his bright red coat, carrying a large sack, Santa looked right at us. Zach was frozen in his spot, dumbfounded. I smiled, and Santa smiled back as Zach ran down the hallway, crying. I went to calm him down, but he was trembling. All the commotion brought my two older brothers from their rooms, and they saw Santa too, except Santa was hightailing it out of our house. Within minutes, Santa was back in our living room with my brothers on either side of him.

"Well, I guess Santa can stay for a little while. Where's Zach? I have a gift for him." My parents and sisters joined us, and we finally convinced Zach to come and see Santa and get his present from the man himself. We made a believer out of him that night.

This is one of my favorite memories of when we were all together, enjoying the magic and fun of that special evening. That's the best part of celebrating a holiday. I know it can be stressful; the shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. and you wonder if all the work is worth it, but I believe it is. When I go down memory lane, I remember the joy and love of my family, not the work to make it happen. Even when I think about the time my mother and I wrapped presents till midnight, I can't help but smile at that memory, too.

Most of us lead busy lives, and it's not always easy to stop and be in the moment. The beauty of the holiday season gives us a chance to slow down, take a breath, and connect with each other. Being with friends and family, catching up with them, and having a few laughs makes life fun.

All of us are Santa Claus, and we have the power to make memories full of hope and love. Remember to take time with each person you're getting together with. The real gift is letting the people you care about feel seen, valued, and appreciated.

I wish all of you a wonderful and happy holiday season. Now, go to bed early; you don't want to take the chance that Santa will skip your house.
